Five Core Principles for Health Care Reform

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO in collaboration with the New Jersey Partnership for Working Families are helping to drive efforts throughout the state to achieve comprehensive health care reform. As member organizations of the Health Care for America Now (HCAN) national coalition, we are commited to a health care system which embodies the following five principles:

• Quality - We get the benefits we need, when we need them.

• Affordable - Cost of coverage is based on a family's ability to pay rather than corporate profits.

• All-inclusive - A truly inclusive and accessible health care system in which no one is left out.

• Choice between public and private plan - People choose the plan that works best for their familiy.

• Standard Benefits Package - A plan that provides preventative care, treatment for the chronically ill, and treatment for those with preexisting conditions.
